The control cavity itself is still an open, routed pocket, though, so there's no rear access panel either way: every pot, the switch, and the jack have to go in through the f-hole, same as on a fully hollow body. This harness is built as a single complete unit and tested on our workbench first, so what arrives at your door is a single pre-spaced assembly you can feed in and mount — not a bag of parts to solder blind. Two volume controls, two tone controls, a 3-way pickup selector switch, wiring diagram, and installation instructions included.

Every ES-335 harness we build uses premium components selected for reliability and tonal performance, wired 50s-style so that rolling back the volume knob keeps your top end intact rather than getting dull, with a tone control that stays smooth across its full range.

Choose Your Tone Caps

Paper-in-Oil (PIO) or Orange Drop

Centralab Paper-in-Oil (.033uF bridge, .015uF neck) is our Premium build — cleaner, warmer tone for jazz and blues playing, with a bit of bluesy grit when you dig in and improved sustain. The f-hole opening is the real constraint, and it's the same one a fully hollow guitar hands you, so patience matters more than the block does. Feed the components through one at a time, in order: whichever one ends up sitting nearest the f-hole goes in first, the jack goes in last, and give the wires a little slack rather than pulling them taut so nothing snags as each piece settles into place. Because this harness ships pre-built and pre-spaced as one assembly, you're guiding a finished unit into position, not routing loose parts and hoping they land right. A volume pot has gone scratchy or the 5-way switch crackles between positions.

Trying to fix these problems component by component can be frustrating, especially if you lack the experience to solder reliably without damaging any components. It becomes even harder if the first try doesn't "fix it" and you have to go back and try again.

That's why the prewired Strat harness is a great solution - it replaces the whole signal path in one go. A new complete harness offers just the right pots, switch, jack, and tone cap, built to spec and tested before it ever leaves the bench. Every 59 Series harness uses Centralab paper-in-oil tone capacitors - .033uF on the bridge tone control, .015uF on the neck - the capacitor type Gibson built into its original late-1950s Les Paul wiring, before film capacitors like Orange Drop became the modern standard replacement. Paired with Bourns Pro Audio potentiometers and 50s-style wiring, it's built for players who want their Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul's two-volume, two-tone control set as close as possible to that original 59-spec feel, in either short-shaft or long-shaft form, with or without the prewired switch and jack.
